Nursing Home Award Program Overview

Purpose:

Improve the quality of nursing home care for Texas by recognizing nursing homes for their quality improvement success.

Strategy:

Nursing Home Quality Initiative Coalition (NHQIC) members will publicly recognize nursing homes that have achieved verifiable quality improvement success, while providing an incentive for nursing homes to create a health care environment dedicated to achieve high standards through quality improvement.

Goals:

Improve the quality of life for each individual resident in a Texas nursing home.

Improve statewide performance on the CMS national quality measures.

Increase the number of nursing homes actively working on a quality improvement.

Scope: All nursing homes in Texas that meet the criteria will be eligible.

Methodology: The award will be based on:

  • Improved performance on selected focus areas, one of which needs to be an Advancing Excellence Goal:
    • Each nursing home must select at least one clinical topic and one non-clinical topic on which to focus improvements.
  • Compliance with other common quality standards set by the nursing home industry.
